Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). Two years later she became general reporter at NBC News in Washington. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was appointed the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. She was a member of an advisory panel during the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a wide range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, budget tax reforms and the arms control. Mitchell travelled together with President Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to attend summits and discuss issues including the Iran Contra controversy.
